AcroTex Gymnastics - Not only do we train gymnasts,
we also make sure they grow to become high self-esteem individuals.

AcroTex has been training kids and young adults in Gymnastics, Dance, Cheer, and Tumbling for over 36 years. They ensure that training is administered in a safe environment through an enjoyable means of teaching. They believe that each child is unique and instructions should be personalized according to each student’s skill level and capabilities

This internship was primarily an office and clerical type job. Basic tasks included manning the front desk, taking payments, answering the telephone, assisting in getting kids enrolled or un-enrolled in classes, moving kids between classes, and being a friendly face of the company. The internship also included some working with the kids on the gym floor. However, for someone more interested in becoming a coach, opportunities could exist for much more floor intensive experience. My personal goals for the internship were more front desk and business management oriented.

While prior experience in coaching, or in gymnastics participation, would certainly be helpful there are really no major qualifications to work in this internship. Because it involves working with children ALL employees, interns included, must pass an extensive background check prior to being permitted to work there. Prior drug use or crimes against persons will disqualify a person from employment as will several other crimes.
For me, this was an unpaid internship. There were no hard benefits involved. The intangible benefits were numerous. Getting a chance to work with the coaches there was an incredible opportunity. The head team coach, Daire, is a very talented and dynamic coach. The contacts that can be made at AcroTex Gymnastics are invaluable if you are considering looking into coaching as a career. The kids are amazing and fun and the parents are a great group of people who are so supportive of all the kids.
I can honestly say that the highlight for me has been getting to know and help this phenomenal group of kids. I can only imagine how rewarding it is to actually work with someone from the time they're in kindergarten to watching them graduate from high school and go off to college, on a gymnastics scholarship no less.
